Laws that were changed in the New Testament (Holy Bible)

Here I've compiled the list of verses and laws that were changed from the Old Testament and written into the New Testament. For compilation of specific verses that were changed by Saint Paul, you can refer to this article here.

1. Lending Money on Interest

Leviticus 25:36 (Old Testament)

Do not take interest or any profit from them, but fear your God, so that they may continue to live among you.

Matthew 25:27 (New Testament)

Well then, you should have put my money on deposit with the bankers, so that when I returned I would have received it back with interest.

Did Saint Paul Change the Laws & Teaching of the Original Holy Bible? (with Example Verses)

From my previous post on Chapters Written by Saint Paul in the Holy Bible, I've gathered the Chapters and Verses written by Saint Paul and in this post, I would like to go in detail into each of the verses for further clarification.

First of all, let's visit Matthew 5:17-18

(17) Do not think that I have come to abolish the Law or the Prophets; I have not come to abolish them but to fulfill them

(18) For truly I tell you, until heaven and earth disappear, not the smallest letter, not the least stroke of a pen, will by any means disappear from the Law until everything is accomplished.

In the 2 verses above, Jesus stated clearly that he has not come to abolish the Law of the Prophets before him but to continue or fulfil the teaching from them. He also stated, not even the smallest letter or a small dot is supposed to changed, imagine if a particular verse and law was changed, it will be not be coherent to this verse.

In the other hand, Saint Paul said the law was a curse and no longer needed which contradicts what Jesus has said in Matthew 5:17-18.

Galatians  3:13 - Christ redeemed us from the curse of the law by becoming a curse for us, for it is written: "Cursed is everyone who is hung on a pole."

Next, let's go into each detailed of the verse and identify whether if the letter, verse or law has been changed. I will put the pictures above in reference to the chapters written by Saint Paul for cross checking purposes.

As per title, we're investigating did Paul follow Jesus teaching or not. Let's investigate further here.

Matthew 5:19 - So if you ignore the least commandment and teach others to do the same, you will be called the least in the Kingdom of Heaven. But anyone who obeys God’s laws and teaches them will be called great in the Kingdom of Heaven

1. Salvation by Faith and Works

James 2:24 - You see that a man is justified by works and not by faith alone.

Galatians 2:16 - Nevertheless knowing that a man is not justified by the works of the Law but through faith in Christ Jesus, even we have believed in Christ Jesus, that we may be justified by faith in Christ, and not by the works of the Law; since by the works of the Law shall no flesh be justified.

Difference Summary:

James - A Man justified by works and not by faith.
Paul - A Man is not justified by works but through faith alone.

2. Sin of Humankind

Ezekiel 18:20 - The one who sins is the one who will die. The child will not share the guilt of the parent, nor will the parent share the guilt of the child. The righteousness of the righteous will be credited to them, and the wickedness of the wicked will be charged against them.

Romans 5:12 - Therefore, just as sin entered the world through one man, and death through sin, and in this way death came to all people, because all sinned

Difference Summary:

Old Testament - Parent and Child does not share sins
Paul - Sin entered the world through Adam and All Mankind Sinned

3. Circumcision

Genesis 17:10 - This is my covenant with you and your descendants after you, the covenant you are to keep: Every male among you shall be circumcised.

Galatians 5:2 - Mark my words! I, Paul, tell you that if you let yourselves be circumcised, Christ will be of no value to you at all.

Difference Summary:

Old Testament - the Covenant (Law) from the God is that every male shall be circumcised
Paul - Circumcision does not mean anything and Christ will be no value to you if you let yourselves be circumcised

4. Prophet Abraham Sons

Genesis 16:15 - So Hagar bore Abram a son, and Abram gave the name Ishmael to the son she had borne.

Hebrews 11:17 - By faith Abraham, when God tested him, offered Isaac as a sacrifice. He who had embraced the promises was about to sacrifice his one and only son.

Difference Summary:

Old Testament - Ishmael was Abraham first son
Paul - Offered the only Son which is Isaac to God even Ishmael was already born

5. Forbidden Food

Leviticus 11:47 - You must distinguish between the unclean and the clean, between living creatures that may be eaten and those may not be eaten

Deuteronomy 14: 8 - The pig is also unclean although it has a divided hoof, it does not chew the cud, You are not to eat the meat or touch their carcasses.

Timothy 4:4 - For everything God created is good, and nothing is to be rejected if it is received with thanksgiving

Difference Summary:

Old Testament - There are laws in clean and unclean food
Paul - All Good is clean and can be eaten

6. Taking other people's possession

Exodus 20:17 - You shall not covet your neighbour's house. You shall not covet your neighbour's wife, or his male or female servant, his ox or donkey, or anything that belongs to your neighbour.

Corinthians 10:24 - No one should seek their own good, but the good of others.

Difference Summary:

Old Testament - You shall not take any of your neighbour's possession
Paul - You should not seek your own good but good of others.

If Jesus told us not to change a letter, verse (words) or the law from the Prophets, why all these 3 elements were changed in the New Testament? Here in this post, I have compiled New Testament Verses that have been Changed not specifically written by Saint Paul.

In addition, you can watch the video below which will give us some insights on if the Bible verses and laws were really changed or not, we can study and conclude this on our own.

Books and Chapters written by Saint Paul in the Holy Bible

After meeting a knowledgeable elderly Pastor at a nearby Church, I've asked for the chapters written by Saint Paul in the Holy Bible. He took out his Holy Bible from his desk and quickly ticked all the chapters of the New Testament for me as shown in the photo below:

He said 14 out of 26 books in the New Testament was written by Saint Paul.
